Early Laws of North Carolina, 1715-1860
There are many reasons why it is beneficial to look at the early laws that existed in our country. This paper examines laws passed by the North Carolina General Assembly between 1715 and 1860, with particular emphasis on race-related laws and the Slave Code. Ultimately, the laws from this time in North Carolina show a disparate treatment of black people and this was a result of the time and circumstances in which the laws were passed.
