Fair Packaging and Labeling Act Case Study
The Fair Packaging and Labelling Act (FPLA) were developed to protect consumers from fraudulent product advertising on product packaging. It was passed in 1966 and requires all consumer products to have labels that are true and informative. The FDA enforces these provisions on foods, drugs, cosmetics and medical devices. (Webref.org Fair Packaging) The act itself states it best,
Informed consumers are essential to the fair and efficient functioning of a free market economy. Packages and their labels should enable consumers to obtain accurate information as to the quantity of the contents and should facilitate value comparisons. (Fair Packaging)
To this end, on July 1, 1967 the Fair Packaging and Labelling Act became enforceable.
