Economic Development: What is It and What is the Appropriate Theory
This paper debates the two main theories of economic development, structuralism and neo-liberalism. Despite misgivings, it supports the former. It provides a lot of good empirical data and independent research. The bibliography has about double the number of required sources. A table of contents gives a general idea of the paper, and the appendixes are long. This was a particularly difficult essay to write because of the very nature of the course. Economic theorists are too limited in their scope, not creating large structural models like a political scientist might or taking proper account of history. Frankly the little equations they create are ridiculous and are hardly able to predict the past effectively, let alone the future.
